Updates

Delay to Probate Applications:

On 22 November 2022 His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) issued the following guidance and timescales regarding applications for Probate in England and Wales:

"Due to high demand, we're updating our expected timeline to be granted probate to up to 16 weeks within submitting your application. It can take longer if you need to provide additional information, but the majority of applications will be processed sooner if there is nothing wrong with the application. As we endeavour to reduce contact and complaints by focusing our responses on issuing grants, we kindly ask all users not to contact us until 16 weeks have elapsed."

Please be aware this may cause delays to the administration of estates. We'll continue to deal with other activities where possible, but some aspects can only be completed once the Grant of Probate is received. If you have any queries on how this may affect you, please contact us in the usual way.

COVID-19 Update:

Following the ongoing challenges around the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continuing to review our working practices to ensure that we continue to deliver services to our customers.

As such, in order for us to maintain service during this unprecedented time, we will be making temporary changes to the frequency of our communication with you to ensure that any updates that we provide remain timely and as informative as possible. This may mean that, where we are still waiting for information or where organisations are temporarily closed and there has been no progress, we will not send you the monthly update that you currently receive.

Please be assured that should you have any questions at any point, you can still contact your Estate Officer in the normal way and they will be more than happy to help.

We will continue to update our website as the situation develops and would like to thank you for your continued support and understanding in these times of uncertainty.

Land Registry Update:

The Land Registry have advised that updating the Register to create a first registration on a Property, which is compulsory in certain circumstances, is likely to take anywhere between 6 to 12 months. This will therefore cause delays within the Estate where this is required. Your Estate Officer will advise if this is likely to affect you.
